In Vilagarcía, fishing is only possible in the sea. People who enjoy this sport can go fishing, with a rod, in the harbours of Carril or Vilaxoán, although the best option is, without any doubt, to go several hundreds metres in the bay to fish from a boat.

If you want to go fishing, you will need a licence. You can get it in the office of the Consellería de Pesca (Fishing Regional Authority) in A Rosa, Carril. This licence allows to fish during the whole year.

Fishing in a river also requires a licence, and it is only possible at certain times of the year. The nearest spot for fly-fishing is the Ulla River, in the neighbouring town of Catoira.

The most important event for anglers is the Santa Rita Open, in May. It is organized by the Liceo Casino, which during the whole year, prepares several social championships -on the river or in the sea- classifying for the provincial competition.

Besides, you can also practice underwater fishing in the Arousa Bay, if you have the necessary licence. Liceo Marítimo organizes several competitions throughout the year, the most important of which is the Memorial Chony.
