In
the first decades of the XX century, Vilagarcía experienced
a tourist heyday that turned it into a small Galician “San
Sebastián”. Recently, the city has been able to recover
that boom trough public and private initiatives, such as the regeneration
of the beach, the construction of the seaside promenade, the construction
of new hotels, the setting-up of modern catering establishments
or the pedestrianization of some areas of the town centre. This
has lead to a bigger affluence of visitors and the development
of new infrastructures to satisfy their demands. The deep tourist
tradition and the hospitality of Vilagarcía inhabitants
make the stay at the town a pleasant experience that many people
repeat year after year.
As the most populated council in O Salnés,
Vilagarcía bring together an important and varied lodging
offer that ranges from a four-star hotel in a historical building
to a second category camping, and from hotels beside the sea or
in the town centre to an economic guest house.
