It
was built by Suero Gómez de Sotomayor -one of the most
important noblemen of the region- in the 15th century. The remains
of the old monastery of Calogo (11th century), in Vilanova, were
used in its construction. Although it is composed of a central
part flanked by two towers, presenting therefore the characteristic
aspect of a Galician noble house, its structure is different,
for instance, to the one of O Rial, because in Sobrán you
can easily notice its medieval origin and what was added later.
The parochial church of Saint Martin (12th century) is at its
side.
